Helminth fauna of Nototheniidae fishes form the Indian sector of Antarctica (Kergelen subregion) consusting of 25 parasitic worms and one parasitic leech is revealed from the investigation of 750 specimens of 5 fish species. Helminth fauna is found to vary within the species as well as within the areas under investigation. There is a similarity of helminth fauna in the genera Notothenia and Dissosthychus evidencing for an existence of taxonomic affinity between representatives of the said genera and for their ecological relations which are reflected first of all in similar feeding on both vertebrates and invertebrates - interstitial hosts of most helminths revealed in Notothenia.

The research in granulometric composition of bottom sediments of the Black sea littoral zone and allochthonic hydrocarbons concentrated in them revealed a dependence of the latter on availability of coarse-pelitic (0.005-0.01 mm) and fine-aleuritic (0.01-0.05 mm) dimensions of certain mineralogical and substance composition.

Low-concentrations (0.1-0.3 mg *l-1) of glucose and hydrolyzate are found to render a strong regulating action 15-36.8% on the algae growth and photosynthesis. Depending on the combination of a substrate concentration and light intensity, this action could be both negative and positive. The highest stimulating effect on both of these processes was observed in low light intensity variants (2.6-7.6 thou. lux). Alongside with, this certain species were marked to have second maximum in growth and photosynthesis rates associated with bright illumination (36-45 thou. lux). Bottom sediments and macrozoobenthos were observed in the bays and adjacent open-sea areas of the south-western Crimean extremity. The investigations show a tendency of the bottom sediments to accumulate highly carbonized chloroform bitumoid and to increase zoobenthos biomass mainly due to the mollusk Tritia reticulata, polychaeta biomass reduced everywhere. Changes over a 6-year period appeared to be insignificant, which evidences for a relative ecological stability.

The nitrogen excretion rate of a 50-600g squid Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis (Lesson) from the Indian Ocean is determined at 27-29C. The squid protein requirements at the maintaining level are estimated and relative daily ration values are discussed on the basis of the data obtained.

The paper presents results of studies in the influence of temperature and salinity on the Artemia development and survival. Observations of moult make it possible to visually determine the stage of copepod development. Stage duration (moult periodicity), pubescence time, reproduction and survival of copepods are essentially dependent on the temperature factor. This dependence increases with the copepod age. Salinity is not revealed to influence the characters in question.

Maximum bacterial oxygen consumption is registered in the bay in March. The mean respiration rate of bacterial cells at 20C was 0.36*10-9 mg O2/cell/day (varying from 0.16*10-9 to 1.21*10-9 mg O2/cell/day). In March bacteria possessed the highest mineralizing activity. A temperature rise in situ, an increase in the organic matter content in water contributed to bacterial destruction intensification. Bacterial biosynthesis efficiency in the bay was 25%.

The research on south-western Atlantic phytoplankton carried out in July-August of 1976 resulted in revealing the predominance of diatoms, dinoflagellates and yellow-green algae. The greatest species diversity is found in the Brazilian waters, maximum quantities and biomass are registered in transformed waters between the subtropical Brazilian and subantarctic Falkland waters and the Western wind-drift current. In the section along 42 grad 30 min S. L. between 52 grad and 59 grad W. L. the trophogenic layer in the Falkland waters as well as in the transformed waters spread down to a depth of about 50 m, in the Brazilian waters - down to 80-100 m. In the 43 grad 30 min W. L. section from 46 grad to 27 grad S. L. the lower limit of the trophogenic layer...

In the region of South-Atlantic anticyclonic circulation total concentration of zinc and copper in oceanic water ranged within 1.5-17 and 1.8-6.2 mg/l, respectively. The concentration of dissolved mineral zinc varied from 0.0 to 5.8 mg/l, that of dissolved mineral copper - from 0.0 to 2.2 mg/l, that of dissolved organic complex of zinc and of copper - within 0.4-3.6 mg/l and 0.3-1.1 mg/l, respectively. Particulate zinc ranged within 0.18-1.25 mg/l and copper within 0.22 to 3.6 mg/l. Concentration of trace elements in water and their forms ratio depended on regional hydrological conditions. Concentration of zinc in oceanic plankton varied from 3.6 to 124.6 mg/kg, that of copper and manganese - within 1.0-27.4 and 0.2-6.7 mg/kg (wet mass), respectively,...

Рассматривается зависимость гельминтофауны рыб от их питания, возраста и образа жизни, а также от гидрохимического режима водоема. На фоне сложной геологической истории Азовского моря и экологического анализа гельминтофауны рассматривается её генезис. Даны рекомендации для повышения рыбопродуктивности Азовского моря и прогнозы в случае дальнейшего прогрессирующего осолонения моря или постройки плотины через Керченский пролив. Biomechanics of swimming limbs is described for Calanus helgolandicus. Five pairs of its thoracic limbs represent an integrated kinematic chain of the locomotory apparatus possessing two stable positions depending on the relative position of the thoracic segments. Hydrodynamic resistance of the C. helgolandicus swimming limb is studied by means of its enlarged model in a special hydrodynamic through. It is revealed that resistance of the limb is dependent on its position in the flow, profile, relative position of segments and availability of hairs.

The paper deals with seasonal changes in the RNA and DNA content, in the total content of nucleotides and in the content of their groups, in the content of nucleosides, lipids and chlorophyll in the Black sea algae Callithamnion corymbosum. The interrelation of certain biochemical contents (chlorophyll-lipids, chlorophyll-RNA) is revealed. It is shown that the content of almost all studied biochemical components of the cell is connected with the cycle of the algae development.

Two abiotic factors are distinguished determining the primary production level in various layers of high-, middle- and law-productive stations. A temperature dependence of the primary production is observed in the intermediate and deep layers. The primary production in deep layers is found to be light intensity-dependent. Biogenic elements in deep layers are not traced to influence the primary production.

In September of 1979 phytoplankton of the Egorlytsky and Tendrovsky bays of the Black sea was represented by 76 species and varieties. Diatoms are featured by the greatest variety (46). The intensification of the phytoplankton vegetation in the Egorlytsky Bay was caused by its eutrophication. Its central part reveals water bloom due to the availability of certain diatom species. The mean biomass (8.5 g/m^3)increased fourfold, as compared with evidence obtained late in August, 1969-1970. The phytoplankton quantity in the Tendrovsky Bay is less (2.8 g/m^3). A certain enhancement in its vegetation occurred in the zone influenced by fresh waters of rice checks.

Experiments with three species of the Black sea plankton algae conducted without their preliminary adaptation to flowage conditions in chemostat showed a stimulating action of protein hydrolysate added to the Goldberg medium on the growth of Platymonas viridis (28%) and Ditylum brightwellii (30%). The rate of Prorocentrum micans growth under these conditions, on the contrary, decreased by 8% as compared to the control. Studies in the organic matter influence on the photosynthesis intensity yielded unlike results. The photosynthesis in Prorocentrum micans and Platymonas viridis after a 7-9 day exposure grew by 15-22% on the average and that in Ditylum brightwellii was inhibited by 20%. The Acartia clausi Giesbr. fouling by benthoplanktonic algae is studied in the Sevastopol bay of the Black sea. Eight species of diatomaceous algae are found in the fouling composition. Three maxima - spring, summer and autumn - are registered during a year in the copepods fouling by diatoms, when the fouling biomass was on the average 5.6, 0.004 and 1,5% of wet body mass of planktonic animals, respectively. The intense copepods fouling by epiphytes reduced more than 2.5 times food consumption and fertility and decreased the survivability of copepods.
